Chiara Silvano is an italian artist set in Venice. In 2003 She graduated in Fine Art Painting at the Wimbledon College of Art, in London U.K. After few months spent at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Nantes, in France, she went back to Italy where in 2007 she got her Master Degree in Visual Arts with a dissertation on Art as Therapy. 

Her main way of expression is painting, and she likes adding some embroderys together with fabirics to her canvases. 

She mainly exibithed in Germany in group shows together with artists such as Baselitz, Grossman and TAL R and in 2015 she had her first solo show in Passau, Germany (Il peso della leggerezza/ Das Gewicht der Leichtigkeit – Solo Show- Spitalhofstrasse 94 Passaou- Curator: Kunstprojekte Sigrun C. M. Leyerseder).

In 2023 she exhibited in Oslo, in a group show organized by the Norwegian Cultural Center and curated by the Borderless Gallery, titled " Beyond the Frame" and she had a solo show in Villa Fapanni-Combo, in Martellago ( Venice) titled " Dentro e fuori".

Her practice is informed by a fundamental impulse to express her imaginative world.

She strives to represent emotional states that inhabit the boundary between the present moment and some event that is about to transform it: an unknown factor that will unlock the situation and open it out onto something else, somewhere else. She is constantly searching for the almost invisible seam that runs between the everyday and the unexpected, and in so doing, she is especially interested in revealing the strong relation between inner space and the exterior world.

Lately, animals, and especially birds, have begun to recur frequently in her paintings. She attributes this desire for connection with nature to a sense that it holds the means of regaining a sense of freedom, a fresh perspective, a new beginning.

Women are very much at the heart of her narrative concerns and she often portray them through an autobiographical lens; a travel journal of sorts in which she can rapidly sketch her thoughts. In this sense, she would describe what she does as a visionary art of sensations.

Her preferred medium is oil paint, to which she adds a mixture of different materials, sometimes applying pieces of fabric or embroidery to her canvases. Colour is extremely important to her: it’s what drives her compositions. She likes to work with a range of bright colours on her palette and finds that the addition of stitching strengthens the contrasts between figures, allowing her to experiment with creating a more interesting, three-dimensional surface. She paints quickly and, since the creation of a particular atmosphere is her main goal, she is more concerned with expression than with technique. Once she has managed to achieve that in paint, she will use embroidery stitches to give a more final and precise form to her idea. Sewing is a slow, meditative process that allows he to refine and rearrange her original vision which has often formed quite rapidly in her mind. The act of stitching also creates a connecting thread with a traditionally female accomplishment and makes her feel like a bridge between the present and the past.

She is also very much interested in using art as a way to heal. She is being working for over ten years as a special needs teacher and she loves working with children using art to have a straight on approach with the children's  inner insights, helping them to find balance and confidence.

She organizes art workshops held in english, in order to teach a foreign laguage to italian children.
